Glenn's Nationwide Driving Service www.GlennsDrivingService.com

I will drive your car, van, light truck, UHaul or small RV anywhere in the USA or Canada for
$600 or less
(plus gas & tolls)
No charge for driver's airfare. Pets carried, too!

CURRENT STATUS: Earliest availability: Aug. 25. (Generally booking one month in advance.)

Furloughed airline employee with free flight privileges will drive your vehicle anywhere in the USA or Canada for US$600 (or less) plus gas and highway tolls. Pets, too! (Additional charge for pets, trips to Alaska and other special circumstances.)

I am a furloughed airline employee recently laid off from a major airline due to local service cutbacks. Bad news? No, great news! I get to keep my free flight benefits until the airline decides to rehire me!

I am passing my good fortune on to you by making this offer: For $600 or less, plus the actual cost of gas, highway tolls and my public transportation to and from the airport, I will drive your car, van, light truck, UHaul or small RV one-way anywhere in the USA or Canada (with a few restrictions). Since my flights before and after cost me nothing, I will charge you nothing for them. I'll even take your pets in the car and care for them along the way! (for a modest additional fee)

Examples: Boston to San Diego, Chicago to Miami, Buffalo to El Paso, Calgary to Atlanta Houston to Fairbanks ...You name it! Even within Western Europe!

The $600 fee is negotiable for shorter trips. Email me for a quote. Note: Fee is higher to Alaska.

This is a personalized door-to-door service where you will have direct contact with me at both ends. I will pick up your vehicle at your starting location anywhere on the continent and drive it with care to your specified destination. I will take a direct route and not make any significant detours. Within seven days or less, your car will be where you want it to be.

For a modest additional charge, I'll take along your well-behaved dog, cat, bird, fish or iguana and will attend to its needs during the journey. As long as it's not big enough to eat me, I'm open to negotiation.

Compare my price to that charged by standard transport services. (Google for others under "Car Transport") Most charge at least $1200 for similar service coast-to-coast -- and they won't take your pets or anything else stored in your car.

I hold a standard driver's license in Massachusetts (not a commercial license) and I have a near perfect driving record (with one speeding ticket in the past ten years and no accidents in the past twenty years). My character is such that I passed TSA/Homeland Security background checks and worked successfully for the airline for one year before being furloughed based on seniority. (Upon request, I can give you evidence of my status with the airline.) When I was active with the airline, I worked on the ramp in Las Vegas, routinely guiding in and pushing out multi-million dollar aircraft (photos).

The largest vehicle I have driven across the country is a 26-foot Uhaul towing a Mercedes (photo). (This is about the maximum size I can drive with my standard license.) My longest drive was Houston to Fairbanks (nearly 5000 miles in 14 days). My shortest drive was Miami to South Carolina (although I will consider any distance--and will charge significantly less than $600 for short trips). The most unusual vehicle I have driven was the Freedom Bus.

The $600 fee includes all my own personal expenses. (i.e. I will take care of my own food and lodging.) At the time of pick-up, you pay only a "fuel deposit," which is our best estimate of the cost of gas and highway tolls along the way. Upon safe delivery of the vehicle at the other end, you will pay my driving fee. I will keep all gas receipts, and upon delivery we will settle any differences between the estimate and the actual fuel cost. (At current gas prices, fuel costs about 10-12 cents per mile for most standard cars, which is about $300 coast-to-coast.)

If you prefer, I can quote you a fixed fee for the entire trip based on your car's rated gas mileage and the Google Maps estimated mileage for the journey. (I can do this with standard car models but not with trucks or campers where the gas mileage is unknown.) The $600 may be negotiable when traveling only part way across the country. I will always undercut any legitimate commercial offer.

Please note that I hold no special insurance. Any accidents are covered by your own insurance (just like if a friend was driving your car). In the unlikely event of loss or damage, my liability is limited to my unpaid fee (i.e. $600).

*Note: My airline flies to most major cities and some smaller ones. If your pick-up or drop-off location is a significant distance from one of these cities, I may charge you for my additional cost of getting to or from that airport (usually by bus). I may also charge extra for unusual circumstances or challenging pets. I do not drive to or from Mexico (but can serve the US border cities), and some restrictions may apply when crossing the US/Canada border.

This is a personal service, not a commercial one, and I can adapt to your family's special needs in ways that corporate services can't. For example, I allow you to load your vehicle with whatever you want (subject to my inspection) while commercial services require the car to be empty. If there are other services you need in conjunction with your move, please ask. (I have a strong back and can do heavy lifting!)

About Me. I am a Boston-based writer, photographer and world traveler of good repute, and I have a big presence on the web if you care to Google me. For a list of my websites and blogs, see my Home Page. I was once featured in a New York Times article on Area 51 and later appeared on Public Radio regarding Family Court.

I drive because I enjoy doing it. It gives me time to think about my writing projects, and I stop from time to time to work on my laptop. It also gives me a chance to get away from the cities and see some of the places I can't reach by air alone. On every drive, I take lots of pictures along the way, and I'd be happy to share them with you. (See my past photos at RoamingPhotos.com.)

When contacting me, please tell me:

  1. Year and model of car.
  2. Starting and ending cities.
  3. Preferred dates.
  4. Is the car registered and insured? (required)
  5. Whose name is on the registration? (Yours?)
  6. Does the car have cruise control?
  7. What will be carried in the car?
  8. Approximate highway MPG (if you know it).
I would also like to know a little about your situation and why you are transporting the car.

If we agree in principle to the trip, I will make up a contract and email it to you for review. The contract says many of the same things mentioned on this page and covers accidents, odometer mileage, liability, date commitments and other issues that have come up on previous trips. Depending on my schedule, I can often travel on very short notice (like tomorrow!). If you want to reserve certain specific dates more than two weeks in the future, I usually require a $100 non-refundable deposit, which will be applied to fuel. I prefer to drive 400-500 miles per day but can sometimes do more under special circumstances.

The $600 fee is negotiable for shorter trips. In addition to gas and tolls, there may be an additional charge for: (1) trips to/from Alaska, (2) pets, (3) towing a trailer, (4) cars without cruise control, (5) trips requiring more that 500 miles/day of driving, (6) US$35 additional charge for trips terminating in Canada (to cover airport taxes I must pay when I fly out. No charge for trips beginning in Canada), (7) cost of public transportation to or from the nearest airport my airline serves, and (8) unusual situations requiring additional attention, labor, expense, risk or schedule changes on my part. However, everything is negotiable! FYI: I am a non-smoker. I will not use your car for any other commercial purpose during the trip, and no one other than me will drive the car.
